1 Milanese
A warp loom knit fabric, made on the Milanese loom, usually from silk or rayon yarns and very fine structure. The looms are constructed with as many as 30 needles per inch and as there are two stitches on each needle this gives 60 loops in one inch of fabric. The fabric is practically ladder proof owing to the double stitches on each needle, thus if one thread breaks, the second thread holds the texture. The fabric is so fine in its mesh that very little surface is given for fracture. The machine is built from 120-in. to 168-in. wide. -

8 Knitted Fabrics
Knit fabrics are made with only one series of yarns instead of two as in woven cloths, and the threads are interlooped. There are two classes of knitted fabrics, those termed " weft knitted " and those that are " warp knitted." Weft Knitted - Fig. A shows how plain knitting is accomplished by a succession of loops formed by the same weft thread coursing across the fabric, 1 shows needle loops and 2 shows sinker loops. Fig. B shows 1 & 1 rib knitting where lengthwise wales 1 and 2 are formed, the plain wales 1 show the rib on the back, while the wales 2 show the rib on the face. Warp knitted Fabrics - These are knitted from warp threads running lengthwise of the piece. The diagram shows a simple form of lapping on odd and even wales alternately. Milanese fabric is warp knit. Owing to the method of interlacing warp knit fabrics are non-laddering. ▪ ▪ -
9 Glove Silk Hosiery
This term applies to hosiery made out of glove silk and the fabrics used are plain, milanese and fancy tricot. The manufacture of this type of hosiery resembles the manufacture of gloves more than any other garment. For an ordinary " glove silk stocking " seven pieces are required and metal dies are used to cut correctly-shaped pieces from the warp knit silk fabric, just as the various pieces are cut to form a glove. These separate pieces are the leg, heel and upper part of the toe, two heel reinforcing pieces, used to reinforce either side of the heel by having two thicknesses, two toe reinforcing pieces and a rectangular piece for the welt.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Glove Silk Hosiery
